About Counselling and Psychotherapy
I offer individual psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy at a frequency of once, twice, or several times weekly, usually using a traditional therapeutic couch.
A psychodynamic psychotherapy approach recognises that we all have ways of feeling and behaving, as well as patterns of behaviour we are not always conscious of — in other words, we have an unconscious.
While we are not always aware of it, the unconscious can influence how we feel and behave, the patterns we repeat, and the ways we relate to others, shaped by past experiences.
You will be invited to explore how the past may be present in your current life, including, at times, reflecting on early and childhood experiences.
This process encourages personal development and the integration of the whole self — emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual (in whatever way that holds meaning for you).
Working with the couch
Choosing to use the couch can facilitate the process of free association — saying whatever comes into your mind — while being freed from the pressure of eye contact. It also represents a step away from everyday conversations and social expectations, allowing you to immerse yourself more fully in the process of therapy.
Lying on the couch can allow you to feel more relaxed and less self-conscious.
